A PLUCKY Ammanford schoolgirl is set for a close shave as she looks to raise funds in memory of her beloved aunt.

Penny Roberts, of Quay Street, has decided to shave off all her hair to join the fight against cancer.

Penny, aged 14, will be hoping to get as much sponsorship as she can in aid of Cancer Research UK.

"Losing my aunt Anne was a very sad time for me," said Penny.

"I hope that by shaving my head I will be able to highlight the cause.”

The teenager has already been getting plenty of support from her Ysgol Dyffryn Aman school friends.

“I’m so proud of her," said pal Meghan Young.

“Myself and all the rest of Penny's classmates have made a banner that we took around the school to get sponsors.

"Everyone in the school has been great.”

By the end of term, Penny had raised a fantastic £300 for the cause.

Penny is set to have her head shaved by the team at Catrin’s Hair Studio in Ammanford on August 1.

“I’m not dreading it too much, I’m looking forward to doing something for charity,” said Penny.

Penny’s dad John Roberts has also praised his daughter’s fundraising efforts.

“I couldn’t be more proud of her," he said.

"I always knew she was a kind and generous daughter, but to do something like this at her age really is quite remarkable.

“Penny has always been a very headstrong young lady and I am absolutely delighted to be supporting her the whole way.”
