A 21-year-old Tumble man has been jailed for 20 weeks after he admitted kicking an innocent teenager in the face after knocking him to the ground with two punches.

Steven Mark Rees, of 57 Rhos Newydd, then headbutted another victim who attempted to intervene after Rees chased the teenager when he tried to escape the assault.

Vaughan Pritchard Jones, prosecuting, told Llanelli court how the 16-year-old had spotted Rees arguing with two of his friends at 8pm on June 19 in Ammanford.

As the youngster, who cannot be named for legal reason, approached, his friends ran away and Rees turned his attention to the teen.

“Out of the blue and for no apparent reason, Rees punched him to the left side of his face,” said Mr Pritchard Jones.

“He pushed him and then he hit him in the face again.

“The boy fell to the floor and Rees kicked him in the face, making contact with his nose.”

The court heard how the youngster managed to get to his feet and attempt to run away, but Rees gave chase.

“There was a further confrontation, at which point the second victim – Darren Warnes - stepped in to diffuse the situation,” said Mr Pritchard Jones.

“Rees turned his attention to Mr Warnes and headbutted him to the nose.”

The police arrived at the scene and arrested Rees, but as he was being led to a waiting patrol car he kneed the wing mirror off the vehicle.

The court was told that in 2011 Rees had previously been jailed for 18-months for an offence of actual bodily harm.

Rees admitted assaulting both the teenager and Mr Warnes.

He also admitted criminal damage to a police vehicle.

District Judge David Parsons jailed Rees for 10 weeks each for both assault offences, with the sentences to run consecutively.

Rees was jailed for four weeks for the criminal damage. That sentence was to run concurrently.
