AN AMMANFORD optical assistant has raised more than £300 for the Alzheimer's Society by completing a solo skydive.

Zoe Davies, 26, took part in the charity challenge at Swansea Airport, raising a grant total of £316.63.

Her colleagues at the Quay Street store helped her on her way to her fundraising total by holding an in-store fun day.

Staff donned fancy dress costumes and offered store visitors home-made cakes, face painting and glasses 'MOT' all for a donation to the charity.

The store also held a raffle with prizes donated by local business, including Boots, Iceland, Home Bargains and the Post Office, as well as a watercolour painting, donated by Specsavers customer and local artist Adrian Thomas.

The day raised £240 towards the fundraising total.

Zoe Davies said: "I am absolutely delighted to have raised such a great amount for the Alzheimer's Society, a cause very close to my heart.

"The sky dive itself was a daunting challenge, but knowing that so many people had given so generously was great motivation.

"I’m really grateful to everyone who donated and to all my colleagues at Specsavers for organising the fun day, which was really popular.

"It was great to see so many customers and visitors in store and the donations that they and others have made will make a real difference to families across Wales that are affected by Alzheimer’s."

Zoe’s sky dive took place at Swansea Airport and was organised with the help of Delusion Events Swansea.

Zoe's friend and beauty salon owner, Lowri Jones of Transition, Ammanford also took the plunge with the optical assistant.

Kevin McCarthy, director of Specsavers in Ammanford, said: "We are all very proud of Zoe for completing the sky dive for such a fantastic cause.

"The store fun day was a great success, and I’d like to thank everyone who came along and donated to Zoe’s total.

"It was great to see the store team and the local community rally round to support Zoe in her charity challenge and we’re pleased to have been able to help her reach such an impressive total."
