An Amman Valley man was caught with indecent images of children on his computer following an international sting operation initiated in the United States of America.

David John Keith Evans, of Escairynys in Upper Brynaman, appeared before Llanelli magistrates court to admit five charges of making indecent images of children as young as five or six years of age.

The charge of “making indecent images” relates to the downloading and viewing of pictures from the internet.

Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard Jones told the court how Evans, aged 39, had been indentified following a global policing operation which saw investigators tracing the accounts of individuals who had visited suspect websites.

“This case came to light because of an international search started in North America which led to this gentleman’s email address being discovered,” he said.

The court was told how police following up the information discovered “16 inappropriate images” on Evans’ computer.

“When question by police he admitted he had obtained the images,” Mr Pritchard Jones said.

“They relate to fairly young children, some of them five or six, up to 14 years old.”

He added that the images had been classified in the least serious category of indecent images of children in that none showed any sexual activity, but instead depicted youngsters in their underwear.

Ordering a pre-sentence report, District Judge Neil Thomas warned Evans that all sentencing options were to remain open and he faced a possible prison term.

Evans will appear again at Llanelli magistrates court on December 11 for sentencing.
