Informal interviews will be held in June and the successful applicant will be told by the end of school term.

“We have been delighted with the response from pupils in each of the schools,” said project leader Inspector Alan Millichip.

“We know that there are lots of forms that are still with pupils who are interested in taking part, and we want to remind them that the closing date is this weekend.

“As a volunteer police cadet you will be given a unique insight into how the Police Service works.

"You’ll be given a uniform and you will learn all about police powers and procedures; take part in competitions and assist and influence local policing teams improve the service we provide our communities."

“But it’s not all about policing," added Inspector Millichip, "The Volunteer Police Cadets are the only uniform youth group who’s young people to volunteer an average of three hours per month working in their communities on crime prevention and social action projects.

“In return you will be offered opportunities to improve your communication and leadership skills, gain awards and qualifications such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award, and meet other young people from your area and the rest of the country with similar interests.”
