THE Family Housing Association is to host an information day for those who want to find out more about the multi-million pound extra-care housing facility at Gwynfryn.

The event will take place on Friday, July 17 at the Pensioner’s Hall, Quay Street, Ammanford from 2pm to 5pm.

The £10million development is planned to open in early 2016 providing 50 apartments for people over 55.

Demand for places at this development is expected to be high.

Ty Dyffryn at Gwynfryn is one of two new extra care schemes in the county provided by Family Housing Association and Carmarthenshire County Council, the second in Carmarthen.

Together they are providing 111 extra care apartments costing more than £23-million across the two schemes in Carmarthenshire by January 2016.

Ty Dyffryn, opposite Coleg Sir Gar on Station Road, will have 37 one-bedroom flats plus 13 flats with two bedrooms. The latter are designed to be suitable for couples who want to stay together even though one might have significant health issues.

Tenants will have individual apartments with privacy and security. A range of social activities will be encouraged with a focus on promoting independence.

Staff will be on hand to offer advice on eligibility and the broad range of facilities provided at the scheme.

The scheme will have facilities open to the wider community including a restaurant, craft and therapy rooms and a hair salon. It is designed to be part of the community and will encourage use by local residents.

Barry Miles, Older Person’s Service Manager at Family Housing Association said: “We are working in partnership with the county council to design and develop this exciting new scheme which will provide modern homes and services for the county’s older residents.”

The information day will be an opportunity to find out everything about the scheme with staff available to explain about the development and the care and support services that will be provided. There will also be representatives offering advice and information from the council’s housing department, benefits and domiciliary care team, as well as the support services, Age Cymru, the interior designer and specialised Communication Systems.

The facilities have lifts that are fully accessible for wheelchair users and has the necessary charging points for mobility scooters.

Anyone wishing to apply for the much sought after accommodation can go on the Housing Choices register, call into any council reception area or email: direct@carmarthenshire.gov.uk telephone 01267-234567 or text 07892 345678.
