SARON Hall hosted its 13th Annual Art Show recently with an emphasis on original artworks.

The standard of work exhibited was higher than ever with several new artists showing for the first time.

Head of Art at Ysgol Bro Dinefwr Liz Davies took on the role of judge and was deeply impressed by the standard of work on display.

Ms Davies said that while choosing the various winners had proved difficult, it was a task she had thoroughly enjoyed.

The winner of the Judges Choice was Cleaver Symonds with his mixed media painting Winter Storm.

Winner of the People’s Choice award, voted for by visitors who viewed the art works, was Phil Jones with his gouache painting The Rescuer, depicting a mine rescue worker in a flooded mine.

Winner of the Children’s Favourite, voted for by children visiting the show, was Zoe Ross for her acrylic painting Secret Squirrel.

Colin Jones claimed the Highly Commended award for his acrylic painting Boys Night Out while the winner of the Commended category was Anne Roberts for her delightful pencil drawing Vicky.

The awards were presented by Carmartrhenshire County Councillor and Vice-Chairman of Saron Welfare Association, Councillor Alun Davies.

Saron Welfare Association would like to thank Ms Davies for taking on the extremely difficult role of judge, particularly in year when the standard of work was so high.

Thanks also go to Siwla Virago and her helpers for all of their hard work in putting on yet another successful show.

The proceeds of the show will go towards the upkeep and running of Saron Hall.

The committee would also like to thank the ladies of Saron District WI for providing refreshments.
