THE West Wales Friends of Palestine (WWFOP) is a group of local people concerned by the plight of communities living in Palestine.

The group has made a friendship link with the community based around Rummanah, in the northern part of the West Bank, on the border wall with Israel.

The aims of the WWFOP is to foster friendship between West Wales and the community of Rummanah and to broaden mutual understanding of the cultural, recreational, educational and commercial activities of our two areas.

Four people from West Wales recently visited the village where they were greeted by the children in the village nursery.

The group were given a brief tour of Rummanah, which consists mainly of farmers who have lost most of their land to Israel and now find themselves as refugees.

"The 14,500 people living in the four villages find life extremely hard due to the restrictions placed on them," said a WWFOP spokesman.

"They have concerns about unexploded munitions from random military exercises, often carried out during the night, being found by the children and adults.

"Water shortages compound their struggle for survival.

"Despite the adversities the people are kind, generous and hopeful for a fairer and better life for themselves and their families."

WWFOP is set to host an event on Saturday, September 19, from 2.30pm to 4.30pm at Carmarthen library were they will celebrate the friendship link with news and photographs of the trip.

Light refreshments will be available. The event is free of charge and everyone is welcome to go along.
