TRIBUTES have poured in for a “creative and kind-hearted” S4C cameraman who lost his battle with cancer on Monday.

Andrew Davies, who lived on Talbot Road in Ammanford, was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2014 and following chemotherapy sessions he travelled to Spain for therapy treatment unavailable on the NHS.

He had worked on a number of S4C programmes covering a range of world events including the fall of the Berlin wall.

S4C's director of content and broadcasting, Dafydd Rhys said: "Andrew was a key figure in a range of S4C series from almost the very beginning of S4C.

"His enthusiasm and creativity as a cameraman inspired a generation of people to work in the film and TV industry.

"He will be a great loss to the creative industries and the local community."

Andrew passed away, peacefully, at Ty Bryngwyn Hospice, Llanelli on Monday at the age of 52.

Andrew’s wife Llio said he spent the last few weeks under “fantastic” care at the hospice and the treatment he underwent in Spain meant Andrew was able to have a good quality of life.

She said: “The treatment meant that following chemotherapy Andrew’s organs remained healthy for longer.

"It was a detox from the chemo and it made the last few months easier for him.”

Llio, and the couple’s four children are said to be overwhelmed with the messages of support from Andrew’s former work colleagues, friends and customers at their Carmarthen Welsh bookshop, Siop y Pentan.

“Andrew was hard-working, professional, creative and kind-hearted, I know a lot of people respected him and his work,” added Llio.

Andrew’s funeral is on Monday, February 8 at Llanelli Crematorium, at 1pm.
