A GLANAMAN pensioner has expressed her thanks to the mystery “angel sent by God” who she says saved her life after she was left trapped in an overturned car on a little used country land for 45 minutes following a crash last week.

Jean Davies, of Jones Terrace, had been driving along Gelli Lane in Tycroes to pick up her beloved Yorkshire Terrier Benji from Gelli Farm Kennels and Cattery last Monday afternoon when she hit a large rock in the road.

The 76-year-old lost control of her car which rolled onto its side in the road.

“I was completely trapped inside my car for 45 minutes,” said Mrs Jones.

“I was panicking in case the car caught fire.”

Fortunately for Mrs Davies, help was at hand.

“A lady called Gaynor came to my rescue and called the emergency services,” she said.

“Gaynor stayed with me until the police and fire service arrived and I am so thankful.

“If it wasn’t for Gaynor I think I would be dead.”

Mrs Davies, who has lived in Glanaman for 26 years and is a regular visitor at Gelli Farm kennels, said improvements were needed to the road surface at Gelli Lane.

She said: “I had driven down the exact road earlier in the day to take my dog to John, who cuts and shampoos Benji on a regular occasion.

“If you don’t use the kennels then you probably wouldn’t know about the road.

“It is so quiet and narrow, I was concerned that I was going to be left and no one would hear me in the country lanes.

“If you drive too slow you go into a pot hole and the road doesn’t allow you to drive fast so you can’t win.

“Even the paramedics struggled to get down the lane”

Although shaken by the incident, Mrs Davies was lucky to be otherwise unhurt.

“I believe in God and Gaynor was an angel sent to help me,” she said.

“I am thanking God for being alive and not a bone broken. God isn’t finished with me yet.”

Rob Jeffery, the Welsh Ambulance Service’s Head of Operations for the Hywel Dda Health Board area, said: “We would like to thank Mrs Davies for her kind words and hope that she is on the mend after the accident.

“Our crews take great pride in caring for and reassuring patients during what can often be traumatic experiences for them, therefore we are very pleased that she was happy with their response.”
