TRUSTEES and staff of a Carmarthenshire charity are delighted to announce the reopening of a care home in Glanaman.

After a difficult period since last summer, Hafan Croeso has reopened its doors to provide respite and residential care for elderly people facing issues of dementia and mental health.

Speaking on behalf of the Hafan Dementia Care charity, Richard Powell, the Responsible Individual for the home, said: “It is a great feeling to know that families and carers in our community can again turn to somewhere local where there is quality care and support for loved ones who are affected by a condition that is all too common nowadays.

“We aim to maintain our small is beautiful and not for profit approach at the home which, coupled with our day centre in Ammanford, will provide a lifeline for some of our most vulnerable citizens and their carer’s

“This is a wonderful community resource and it was a both a joy and a huge relied to see the arrival of our first respite resident recently. I’d like to thank everyone who has worked over the years and over recent months for making this possible.”

Having undergone a period of restructuring, which involved working with the care regulators and the local authority, the charity is again in a position to offer both private and council based referrals.

Hafan Dementia Care was the brainchild of a dedicated group of carers and volunteers guided by a former local care home manager Dorothy MacDonald.

It developed to the point where many viewed their work as the model approach to an issue which is increasingly of concern within Wales’s ageing population.

Hayley Thomas, newly appointed as Care Manager at Hafan, said: “This means that anyone in the local community affected by dementia has a place to turn to on their doorstep again.

“If anyone working in this field or themselves are looking for day care, respite or residential care, contact us either at the day centre in Ammanford or at the care home in Glanamman.”
