AN AMMANFORD man who attacked and robbed a 75-year-old pensioner in his own home has been jailed today for eight years and four months.

Twenty-five-year-old Rhodri Wyn Llewellyn thumped and kicked Peter Gordon Shaw for the sake of just £40.

Two days later Llewellyn attacked council worker Alan Williams as he walked down a lane in the town. But Mr Williams fought back and Llewellyn was finally arrested.

Today, Llewellyn, of Ffordd y Glowyr in Betws, admitted robbery and assault and was jailed for eight years and four months.

Swansea crown court heard that Llewellyn spent his days drinking cider and taking valium tablets.

Kevin Jones, prosecuting, said on April 6 Mr Shaw opened the back door to his home in Maes y Bont, Glanaman, after a security light came on.

As he did so Llewellyn, who was hooded, burst in and began a merciless attack before dragging Mr Shaw upstairs and demanding “more and more” money.

After being left bloodied and with a broken nose Mr Shaw looked out of the window to see Llewellyn walking away and counting the money he had stolen.

The court heard that Mr Shaw was now too afraid to leave his own home.

The attack on Mr Williams happened as he walked down a footpath leading off Manor Road, Ammanford.

Mr Jones said Llewellyn attacked the 56 year old without warning and had never explained why.

His barrister, Ian Ibrahim, said even Llewellyn was horrified at what he had done. He understood he would spend many years in prison, added the barrister.

Judge David Hale said Llewellyn had brought “absolute shame and disrespect” to his family.

Judge Hale said it was a rare animal that would behave like he had in carrying out a brutal attack on a 75 year old man in his own home, and all for the sake of just £40.

“It is almost impossible to understand how you could do that just for the sake of some money.

“You must have seen as soon as you burst in that he was a man of some age,” added the judge.

Llewellyn was jailed for eight years for the robbery and an additional four months for the attack on Mr Williams.
