AN inspirational nine-year-old has been invited to speak to the Welsh Assembly after writing a letter stating the struggle of finding a house for her disabled uncle in Garnant.

Mia Thorne, from Pontypridd, was just nine months old when she was diagnosed with a form of cerebral palsy called congenital hemiplegia.

Mia’s family are from Amman Valley and she visits most weekends. Mia’s uncle, Scott Fairburn, is wheelchair bound and is looking to move house but is finding it difficult, so she decided to take action and write to the Government.

Mia’s heartfelt letter reads: “My uncle Scott, who is in a wheel chair, wants to buy a new house and when we have helped him look they have a shower like mine where I can sit down but they have steps outside so he can't get a wheelchair in, and the ones which don’t have steps outside the bathroom door are too small so he couldn't get a wheelchair inside.

“I'm lucky I don't always need my chair but what happens when I want to get a house and might need a chair? What happens to people who can't get out of their chair like Uncle Scott where will they live? I want to help others like me to get the help they need.”

This is not the only action Mia has taken as she is also child ambassador for Wales for Caudwell children and has recently been awarded the Princess Diana award and continues to make a difference for children with disabilities.

Mia’s mum Karene said: “Mia is doing amazing. She has her own health battles but she wants to make a difference for others.”

Despite struggling to even balance on her own, Mia is taking on her biggest challenge next year to raise money for a charity close to her heart.

Karene added: “Dreams Come True paid for us to go to Florida in 2012 and now Mia wants to raise money for them so more children can achieve their dream.”

Mia is learning how to ice-skate to take part in a charity ice hockey match in Cardiff next July.
