A MAN from Tumble who was searched by police after being drunk and disorderly before urinating in a police vehicle has admitted having a knife in a public place.

Kevin Davies, 37, of Derwen Road, was found to have been drunk and disorderly on Stepney Street in Llanelli on May 20.

Police officers suspected he had drugs on him, and searched him under their stop and search powers.

Davies was found to have cannabis on him, as well as a lock knife.

The court heard that, when arrested, Davies urinated in the police vehicle, and committed a racially aggravated public order offence back at the station.

Davies had pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis, as well as criminal damage – relating to the urination – and racially aggravated harassment, but initially denied the knife offence.

He previously claimed, via his defence barrister Ashanti-Jade Walton, that “he was using the knife earlier in the day” to help a friend by working on his smallholding.

On that previous appearance, Davies thanked Judge Paul Thomas, saying “Okay, cheers boyo”, when he confirmed when he was due to appear in court next.

At Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on May 22, Davies was fined a total of £240 for the three offences he admitted, and was ordered to pay £85 in costs and a £96 surcharge.

Appearing at Swansea Crown Court on September 5, Davies switched his plea to guilty on the knife charge.

Judge Geraint Walters said that Davies would be subject to a minimum six-month sentence as he had a relevant previous conviction.

Ms Walton asked for sentencing to be adjourned for medical evidence to be produced. Judge Walters ordered a pre-sentence report to be prepared to assess Davies’ mental health.

He will be sentenced on September 29.

Davies was granted bail on that date, on the condition of residing on Derwen Road and not being found drunk or drinking alcohol in a public place.
