A 65-YEAR-OLD man drove dangerously while drunk and assaulted a police officer.

Robert Newell, of Capel Seion Road in Pontyberem, appeared at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on January 2.

Newell was charged with drink driving, dangerous driving, and assaulting an emergency worker.

He was alleged to have been driving a Ford Fiesta on Capel Seion Road on June 16. He was accused of driving dangerously, and when breathalysed, he recorded having namely 97 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal limit is 35.

Newell was also accused of assaulting a police officer.

He pleaded guilty to each of the charges, and the case was sent to Swansea Crown Court for Newell to be sentenced.

He was granted bail, and will appear at Crown Court on January 23.
