The cases were heard at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court.

Here’s a round-up of the cases.

BENJAMIN JONES, 65, of Banc Y Gors in Upper Tumble, almost crashed head-on in to a motorcycle when overtaking a second biker.

Jones was driving a Seat Ibiza on the A40 at Llywel when he came up behind a motorbike rider. The defendant went to overtake the biker, but pulled out in to the path of a motorcyclist coming in the opposite direction.

That rider took evasive action and swerved to avoid a head-on crash.

Jones was charged with driving without due care and attention, to which he pleaded guilty at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on January 3.

MYLES THOMAS, 45, of Kings Road in Llandybie, admitted careless driving after speeding and making sharp turns at speed in front of an unmarked police car.

Thomas was driving a Volkswagen Transporter on the A483 at Llandeilo heading towards Ffairfach. A police officer in an unmarked car was behind him.

The court heard that Thomas had been driving at 35mph in Llandeilo – “well in excess of the speed limit” of 20mph. The defendant sped up to around 50mph over Llandeilo bridge.

After slowing at the crossroads in Ffairfach, Thomas was alleged to have sped up again to 50mph in a 30mph limit, before making a sharp turn at speed, with the officer noting he did not brake or indicate.

He was charged with careless driving, and pleaded guilty at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on January 3.

Thomas had six points added to his licence, was fined £293, and was ordered to pay £110 in costs and a £117 surcharge.
