A DRIVER who was caught behind the wheel high on cannabis twice in less than a month has been banned from the roads.

Samuel Evans, 25, of Derwydd Avenue in Gwaun Cae Gurwen, was alleged to have been driving a Volkswagen Golf on Llandeilo Road in Cross Hands on November 24.

When tested, he recorded having 8.2 micrograms of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol per litre (µg/L) of blood.

The legal limit – to exclude accidental exposure – is 2µg/L.

Just weeks later, on December 17, Evans was alleged to have again been driving while under the influence, this time on Heol Stanllyd in Cross Hands.

He was recorded as having 7µg/L of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol.

Evans pleaded guilty to both offences, and was banned from driving for three years at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on February 6.

The defendant was also sentenced to a 12-month community order, as part of which he must complete 80 hours of unpaid work and 15 rehabilitation activity requirement days.

He must also pay £85 in costs and a £114 surcharge.
