Ivor Jackson, the former mayor of Llandovery, has died, the town council has confirmed.

Tributes have poured in for Mr Jackson, who served as mayor in the town for three years and has been described as a "true gentleman".

Mr Jackson passed away on March 23, sparking tributes from across the community.

Llandovery's current mayor Gina Jones was among those to pay her respects.

She said: “Ivor had been a long standing and very hard-working member of the council. He served as mayor of the town for three consecutive years. His daily walks through the town ensured we were kept informed of anything that needed doing.

“A true gentleman and Cyw Bawddwr, his life was dedicated to Llandovery and its residents. He served as our county councillor and was very proud to serve as chairman of Carmarthen County Council.

“He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know him and to have worked alongside him.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Mary, Angela and the family on their great loss.”

Meanwhile, dozens of comments were left on the post by other Facebook users.

Maria Norejko wrote: “Deepest sympathy to the family. He was one of the town workers who got us our swimming pool. He will be remembered fondly by me always.”

Llandeilo Councillor Edward Thomas added: “Sad news. Ivor had served Llandovery and the county for decades, a true gent.”

“Such sad news! He will be greatly missed. Condolences to Mary, Angela and the family,” posted Pat Morgan.
