Tennis courts in Ammanford will be getting a revamp.

Ammanford Town Council and the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) pledged to invest and refurbish the park's tennis courts, with an £88,565.81 investment. The facilities will be enhanced for the residents of the community.

The renovation of the Ammanford Park tennis courts is part of a nationwide strategy by the UK Government and LTA Tennis Foundation. The aim is to restore public tennis courts across the country, making tennis accessible to more people. Courts in poor or unplayable conditions will be renovated. Improvements include new gate-access technology and booking systems.

Park tennis courts present significant opportunities for people of all ages to be active and enjoy the physical and mental health benefits. The easily accessible facilities enable participation from those from lower-earnings backgrounds and women and girls.

Ammanford Town Council will join forces with the LTA to host a variety of activities across the park site. These include weekly organised free tennis sessions for all ages. Players of different skill levels and experience are welcome and equipment will be provided. Friendly and sociable tennis leagues will be set up.

The newly renovated courts will be available to book online, including via the LTA website. Bookings will be far more straightforward.

Technical officer Wynne Jones said: "The development of this facility is a great leap forward for the town. It will allow all the people of the Ammanford area to participate in tennis activities."

Julie Porter, chief operating officer at the LTA, said: "We are delighted to be working with Ammanford Town Council to improve their park tennis facilities and provide more opportunities for anyone to pick up a racket and get active."

The renovation is planned to be completed by the end of April 2024.
