Residents are concerned about a water bank which collapsed near houses in a Carmarthenshire village.

There are worries the flooding in a playing field will damage the area close to their homes on Briardale in Ferryside.

Locals have tried to find a solution but none of the local authorities have taken responsibility for the problem.

Resident Eloise Denton said: “The residents of Briardale and adjacent properties in Ferryside are distinctly concerned about the bank collapsing directly in front of their housing.

“The subsidence seemingly caused by poor drainage, ineffective land management and surface rainwater. This problem needs addressing asap to stem any further damage to the bank, road, housing and the mental health and wellbeing of residents.”

Carmarthen MP Jonathan Edwards visited the village in the aftermath of the incident and has requested a meeting with Dwr Cyrmu, Natural Resources Wales and the county council to fix the flooding.

He said: “I was glad to be able to meet with the residents of Briardale, Ferryside on site to witness first-hand the subsidence issue that has obviously been the cause of some concern.

“I agreed at the meeting to contact Dwr Cymru, Natural Resources Wales and both County Councillors regarding the matter.

“I believe a multi-agency meeting is crucial to ascertain who is responsible for what and to establish what actions are needed moving forward.

"I hope all parties will agree to the meeting and that this issue can be resolved for the residents of Ferryside.”
