Historic stones wrecking claims denied

THE Mynydd y Betws windfarm developers have hit back at claims they destroyed the possibly prehistoric stone row discovered at the site, writes Steve Adams.
“The stones only came to light in January and as soon as they were identified work was halted and experts brought in,” said ESB site manager Shay Shanley.
“It is important to remember that the significance of the stones is still being evaluated, but we totally and utterly deny we have destroyed anything.
“Following the discovery, the area where the site access road crossed the rowwas excavated by hand.
“Work on the road was held up for a week, but we were able to work around it.
“The road has been constructed and will have no further impact on the stones at all.”
Quantity surveyor and project liaison officer Noel Gallagher added: “We have adhered to everything asked of us by Cadw and Carmarthenshire County Council.
“We are still waiting for the find to be evaluated but one thing is sure, it’s no Stonehenge.”
