Neath and District Bowls League

Briton Ferry Town 54 Gwaun Cae Gurwen 102

The Waun travelled to Briton Ferry to face Town expecting a close game, but the absence of five home regular players due to holidays ensured the visitors enjoyed plain sailing on their way to victory.

Starting on a rather slow surface after a substantial shower an hour or so before the game commenced, the Waun got off to a flying start and led 28–8 after only five ends.

By the tenth end, the visitors had increased their advantage to 52–21 when the tea break arrived.

After the interval and with the green now running at a better pace, the Waun continued to press home their advantage.

The visitors were in cruise control after 15 ends, enjoying a 76–35 lead.

From the 11th to the 15th end, the Waun Number Four rink outscored their hosts by 14–1 - including scoring a maximum eight shots on the fourteenth end.

The Waun ran out comfortable winners in the end, securing a smart 102–54 victory and claiming the maximum 14 points.

Next week the Waun have an open date and will travel to Melyn Utd of Neath the following weekend.
