Carway Ladies 0 Ammanford Ladies 2

Despite taking only 11 players, Ammanford Ladies put in their best display of the season so far to earn their second three points of the season with a hard-fought win over Carway.

The first half was dominated by the visitors with Ffion Cape on the right wing creating a host of chances with penetrating runs and some excellent crosses.

Yasmin Gutteridge and Cari Matthews both went close and forced a series of saves from the home goalkeeper.

The hosts were dangerous on the break, and could have scored midway into the half only for Nia Jones to race off her line to intercept a long through ball.

Ammanford went closest to scoring after another Cape cross was only half cleared and Tammy Jones shot from distance hit the bar.

Ammanford, with wind at their backs after the break, continued in the same vein and the deadlock was broken when another Cape cross was put out for a corner.

Gutteridge’s ball found Beth Davies on the six yard box, who turned and drilled the ball across the face for the diving Cerys Thomas to power home the header.

Matthews saw a volley fly wide of the post and Lena Hendre also came close with a powerful strike from the edge of the box.

Ammanford’s second came from another corner,

Thomas’ effort was only half cleared and fell to Jones who poked the ball into the corner from the edge of the area.

The last chance of the game fell to Gutteridge whose low shot forced another great save from the keeper before the referee brought the match and a fine Ammanford performance to an end.
