Nathaniel Welsh League Division Three

Caerau 0

Cwmamman United 4

Cwmamman moved up to fourth in the Nathaniel Welsh League Division Three with a comprehensive win over Caerau.

During a goalless first half, the visitors created several chances but were unable to convert any thanks to some last-ditch defending from Caerau and some dubious refereeing decisions.

Cwmamman’s first clear chance came when Andrew Bonomi squared the ball to Neil Phillips, whose placed shot went narrowly wide.

The visitors then saw a goal disallowed when Nathan McNeil headed the ball back along the six-yard box and Steven Hughes headed into the empty net only for the referee to blow up for a foul.

On the stroke of half-time David Brown found acres of space inside the Caerau penalty area only to be scythed down as he slipped the ball past the home the full-back, but to the surprise of both sides the referee waved play to continue.

Playing down the slope after the interval, Cwmamman looked to exploit the conditions and duly took the lead on 55 minutes when Hughes’ thunderbolt left the Caerau keeper with no chance.

It was only a matter of time before Cwmamman doubled their advantage and inside five minutes, Bonomi fired in from an acute angle.

Cwmamman then added a third when Liam Soroka chipped the keeper after good work from McNeil.

The visitors rang the changes with three substitutions and, shortly after coming on, Jordan Lloyd Evans scored his first goal for the club.

The victory was nothing less than Cwmamman deserved after dominating the second half.

The clean sheet was down in no small part to impressive performances from the back four of McNeil, Ashley Johns and brothers Jack and Josh Medwin, along with keeper Mark Snell.

Next week Cwmamman host leaders Lliswerry at Grenig Park (KO 2pm).
