Division Two West Central
Resolven 10 Cwmgors 22
Cwmgors registered a second successive Division Two West Central victory with a convincing win at Resolven.
The Cherries did the majority of the damage in a fine first half display, and were 17-5 up by the interval.
But it was the home side that drew first blood with an early try from close range in the corner.
Outside-half Steff Rees got Cwmgors on the scoreboard with a penalty and the visitors took the lead when an attempted clearance was charged down and open-side flanker Iwan Davies followed up to touch down. Rees, as ever, added the extras.
Cwmgors continued to press, and their good play was rewarded again when wing Chris Jones broke well and chipped ahead.
But the paceman was blatantly taken out by a late tackle before he could follow up and the referee awarded a penalty-try. Rees again converted.
The visitors’ attacking play continued after the restart.
Following another slick move from the backs, Jones glided in for a score in the far corner.
Cwmgors claimed the win thanks to an excellent all-round team performance, with Iwan Davies and Number 8 Dylan Hills impressing – their only complaint will be the lack of a bonus point.
Cwmgors will hope to land a third straight league win on Saturday when they face bottom of the table Pontycymmer at the Maerdy.
Meanwhile, Cwmgors Seconds host Neath Athletic at 1.30pm.
