Division Two West

Tycroes 32 Llandeilo 11

With Llandeilo showing signs of marked improvement in the league of late and the topsy-turvy form of the hosts in recent weeks, the visitors arrived at Tycroes in optimistic mood and with every confidence of claiming their first away win of the season.

The hosts however had a different plan in mind and put on their best showing in recent weeks.

Tycroes set their stall out from the first whistle and, with only two minutes on the clock, a driving line-out was steered towards the line by stand-in captain for the day Richie Williams.

The maul was brought down close to the line but with quick recycling, Dean Bromham made his move for the line only to be held up close to the whitewash.

With the visitors defence sucked into the melee, the ball was swept out to Tim Rees and the second row charged over unopposed under the posts. Carwyn Richards added the extras with a straightforward conversation,

The Llandeilo full-back narrowed the gap with two well-struck penalties before a stolen ball on the halfway line by Josh Williams saw him cross the whitewash to give the visitors the lead.

Tycroes reclaimed the advantage on 35 minutes when Mikey Hopkins crossed in the corner, but Richards fluffed his lines and missed with the conversion.

On the stroke of half-time he made up for his earlier miss with a well-struck penalty to push Tycroes noses further in front.

The home team dominated most phases of the game and their scrum performed well. The driving maul gained them yards and the control of the ball which had eluded in previous games.

Skipper Williams steered another line-out the line and scrum-half Matthew James darted over from five yards to give Tycroes their bonus point try on 64 minutes.

Further pressure on the visitors' line saw outside-half Bromham charge down a loose kick to score on 70 minutes. Richards was successful with the extras.

The win brought some unity and self-esteem back to the homesters before their long trek to Aberystwyth next weekend.
