Welsh League Division Three

Panteg 0

Ammanford 2

A Craig Frater double helped Ammanford overcome a tough away test at Panteg, writes Nick Davies.

It was Frater who created the first opportunity too as five minutes in he fired across goal, but there was no-one on the other end to tap in from close range.

Kurt Morgan then fired wide from outside the box, before the hosts flicked a good opportunity over the bar after a ball over the top.

The best opportunity of the half fell for Frater after Ashley Richards’ effort wasn‘t held. The striker fired an effort goalward from the edge of the area but his shot was deflect deflected wide.

Tempers flared before the break as a Panteg defender and Richards earned a place in the referee’s book following an off-the-ball altercation.

After the interval, Ammanford pressed forward and were rewarded 10 minutes into the second period.

From James Kirkwood’s long goal kick, Richards headed down for his strike partner Frater who half-volleyed over the goalkeeper from 25 yards to hand the visitors the advantage.

Then from a long Morgan throw in Richards should have doubled the lead, but he could only guide his header wide.

Kirkwood denied the home side with a diving save on 62 minutes, before Frater came close when his freekick from range hit the side netting.

Kirkwood held a tame effort from the home side as the game entered the last 10 minutes, but the win was sealed with three minutes to go when a defender played a loose ball back to his goalkeeper.

Frater chased down the pass and stole the ball off the keeper before tapping home with the goal at his mercy.

Mikey Morris poked over from inside the box late on, and substitute Geraint Rees created one last opportunity for Richards, but his effort was saved.

Come the final whistle Ammanford gained all three points as they maintained pace with league leaders Llanelli.
