Neath and District Bowls
Porthcawl 56
Gwaun cae Gurwen 87
The Waun travelled to table-topping Porthcawl and secured a fantastic win against the favourites.
Playing on a good paced but difficult green, the visitors led 19–14 after the first five ends due y to the fact that their Number Three rink had opened up an early 8–0 lead.
After ten ends the Waun had increased their advantage to 40–29 .
The expected tea break failed to materialise with the hosts opting instead to provide refreshments post-match.
Being forced to build up a thirst only served to push the Waun on and after 15 ends they had further extended their lead to 59-41 despite the Number Four rink trailing 19–9.
The visitors continued to pressure the home team, especially on Rinks Two and Three, and they finished the game in style, running out 87–56 victors.
The win ensured the Waun to pick up 12 points to their hosts’ two.
The Porthcawl skip was quick to praise the Waun for the manner In which they had played and won the game, and hoped for a reversal of fortunes when the two sides meet again on August 1.
Next week the Waun host Vivian Park of Aberavon.
