Gwaun cae Gurwen 87

Vivian Park, Aberavon 61

Gwaun cae Gurwen played host to Vivian Park of Aberavon in a

Neath and District league match, ultimately running out comfortable winners.

Things did not start smoothly however and after the first five ends the Waun found themselves trailing 21-13, raising the question in the home ranks of “who are the top of the league us or them?”

However the Waun players soon settled down and after ten ends led by 39–30.

With the weather forecast hinting at some possible showers later in the afternoon it was agreed that the match would be played through and tea be taken at the end of the game.

The Waun continued to increase their lead and were 64–46 in front by the 15 end.

They eventually finished the game comfortably at 87–61, ensuring the homesters picked up 12 points to their visitors two.

Next week the Waun travel to Melyn Utd of Neath who were promoted alongside them last year and were the only team to beat them, with Unitred securing a memorable double both home and away.
