TWO Ysgol Dyffryn Aman athletes smashed records at the recent Urdd Athletics 2015 Championships at the Leckworth Stadium in Cardiff.

Year Nines Conner Evans put his name in the discus record books with his 41.30m effort while Carwyn Morris goes down for 42.66m in the javelin.

The day saw the schools Year Seven girls and boys teams finishing in third positions, while the Year Nine boys were crowned Urdd Champions.

The athletics team also took part in the 2015 Welsh Schools Athletics Championships at Leckwith.

Carwyn Morris won gold in the Junior Boys Javelin while Mathew Wigglesworth earned bronze. Aled Rees claimed gold in the Middle Boys High jump.

In the Senior Boys competitions, Ashraf Liles in the 2000m steeplechase and Christian Lovatt in 3000m both picked up gold while Liles also claimed silver in the 1500m with Lovatt bagging bronze.

Dwayne Griffiths earned bronze in the 400m hurdles.

Lauryn Davey took gold in the Middle Girls triple jump and Amber Howell also won a gold in the Senior Girls 1500m steeplechase.

Howell also got bronze in the 400m hurdles while Amelia Davey claimed bronze in the 2000m walk.

Elsewhere, the school’s Years Seven, Eight, Nine and Ten took part in the 2015 West Wales Skiing Championships at Pembrey.

The day proved a huge success with the girls crowned Under 18 West Wales champions while the boys team finished runners-up.
