SWCA T20 Knock Out Cup

At a sodden Ammanford Park, Port Talbot Town skipper Sean Griffiths proved the difference in a ten-over thrash that was the final of the T20 Knockout Cup final.

The visitors batted first and early inroads by Sean Coaker, Alun Evans and Rhys Fisher put Ammanford in a strong position.

Some excellent and incredible catching supported the bowlers, but a whirlwind knock by Griffiths changed the match. His 66 from just 32 balls out of a total of 88 was far and away the highlight of the Pirates innings.

Although Rhys-Huw Davies (28) and Hedd-Wyn Jones got Ammanford off to a decent start, the momentum could not be maintained.

Only three boundaries meant that 22 were needed from the final over, and it proved too many, with Ammanford losing by 13 runs.

That man Griffiths took two for a miserly nine from his two overs and was the only option for the Man of the Match award.

Port Talbot received the Alcwyn Jenkins trophy from SWCA Chairman Neil Hobbs, and Ammanford had the consolation of a Welsh Cup Final appearance the following day at The Gnoll against Colwyn Bay.

In the preliminary event - the Intermediate Cup, Pwll easily overcame gallant Felinfoel to lift the trophy.

Special praise goes to the groundsmen and assistants for staging the matches in dreadful conditions.
