Kenfig Hill 14 Ammanford 58

Unbeaten Kenfig Hill, known locally as The Mule, came across a determined – and also unbeaten Ammanford team.

With a number of players out due to the World Cup and work commitments, Ammanford travelled with a few worries - and these were compounded when the home side took an early 3-0 lead.

Nerves were soon settled though when big second row Liam Baker powered over for the visitors opening try to make it 5-3.

Ammanford’s second score came courtesy of scrum half Ioan Mainwaring with debutant outside-half Joe Morgan adding the extras.

Morgan followed up with a penalty to extend Ammanford’s lead to 15-3.

With the visitors taking control of proceedings, tighthead Rhodri Jones soon made a two-yard break to crash over.

Morgan added the two points to take Ammanford into the break with a comfortable 22-3 advantage.

The second half began as first had ended with Ceri Rees crossing the whitewash and Morgan adding the extras.

Gareth Rees moved from full back to scrum half and celebrated in style with a try.

Morgan went looking to mark an excellent an excellent first appearance with a try of his own and duly got his score, but was unable to convert.

Ammanford’s junior Baker, Jake, matched his big brother with a touchdown to further extend the visitors lead and Morgan rediscovered his kicking boots with the extras.

With the game already in the bag, Ammanford were guilty of taking their foot off the gas and the home side hit back with a couple of late tries to make it 46-15.

The visitors woke up once more however with wing Gary Stephens getting on the scoresheet - Morgan again converted, before the final try of the day arriving when Jake Baker’s drive was held up over the line and the ball slipped out to No 8 Emyr Price who dived over for one of the shortest tries on record.

Team Manager and touch judge Glan Davies praised the visitors for a great all-round team performance.
