Welsh League Division Two

Ammanford 2 Dinas Powys 2

Ammanford had the visitors defending desperately in the opening minutes with only a series of deflections keeping the score at 0-0, but Dinas got into the game and on 15 minutes scored a quality goal which gave home keeper Dafydd Jones no chance.

Ammanford were more than a little fortunate when a snap-shot from the visitors came back into play off the crossbar and gave Dinas a second chance, but they spurned the chance as the header from the rebound also struck the bar.

A fine save from Jones was followed by a great chance for Ammanford's prolific striker Craig Frater who got through on a one on one but saw his effort saved by the keeper's legs.

The visiting keeper pulled off another fine save at the start of the second half to keep his side ahead.

On 65 minutes a Dinas corner should have extended their lead but a free header went over the bar.

Frater almost levelled when he was set free by Mathew Fisher's cleverly worked freekick, but under pressure his shot fizzed inches wide.

On 75 minutes, the referee awarded the visitors a dubious penalty for a push in the box that went unnoticed by the all but the official.

Dinas scored from the spot to double their lead with 15 minutes remaining.

Ammanford rolled the dice and brought on youth player Tim Chapman with Owen James already on from the bench.

The substitution turned out an inspired decision when the youngster turned in a chance that he had created himself for a goal of some quality on 89 minutes to give Ammanford a glimmer of hope.

When the hosts were awarded a freekick just outside the penalty area Frater stepped up to lob the ball over the wall and leave the keeper with no chance to secure a share of the points.

While far from a vintage display, Ammanford could be pleased with their point after being ravaged by injuries and suspension and playing without a recognised centre half with Rhys Owen and Euros Griffiths banned, Rhtys Fisher injured and Brett Enoch recovering from surgery.

Ross Morgan was also out injured and Ben Soal unavailable.

There was further bad news regarding Alex Squires who will be out for the rest of the season.

Next Saturday Ammanford travel to Porth before entertaining Tata Steel on October 10.
