Llandybie 30 Pantyffynnon 10

THERE was a minute’s silence in memory of Maureen Hillard, wife of former Llandybie club Allan, ahead of the visit of Pantyffynnon.

When the action got underway, Aled Tommason converted an early penalty for the hosts but Panty replied with a forward surge and a try from Stewart Sutherland.

Tommason added another penalty for Llandybie after 20 minutes and continued on the front foot with a series of strong carries from Lyndon Davies, Merlyn McClelland, Rhydian Jones and Keenan Jones.

The pressure gave good ball to the backs and Richard Davies spread it wide for Ben Featherstone to score in the corner.

Panty missed a penalty just before the break, allowing the hosts an 11–5 advantage at the interval.

Pantyffynnon’s lively scrum half and right wing looked to cause the hosts problems with their direct running but the home defence was able to keep them at bay.

Llandybie extended their lead when Number 8 Davies picked up from a scrum and broke up the right hand side to offload to winger Tom Morris who raced over in the corner.

The hosts missed a penalty, but with their scrum firing on all cylinders it mattered little.

When hooker Luke Yelland found second row James Tommason and scrum half Tom Griffith moved the ball wide full back Josh Williams came into the line at pace and shrugged off two tackles to score under the posts. Tommason added the extras.

Llandybie should have gone further ahead when a good drive by Dai Lloyd found Davies who made 20 yards but his pass to Featherstone was too high and a try went begging.

Some good forward drives by Panty were held up by Llandybie but the ball was moved to Steffan Morris who crashed over.

But the hosts were determined to have the last say and Lyndon Davies beat three players on a 20-yard burst to score. Tommason again added the extras.

Next week Llandybie travel to struggling Mynydd y Garreg.
