League 3 West B

Betws 14 Llangadog 12

BETWS played host to a high-flying Llangadog with the hosts needing a win after losing their last home game.

In dry but windy conditions Betws should have taken the lead when flanker Sion James charged down a kick near halfway but his legs refused to carry him up the hill.

A couple of missed Betws penalties by outside half Dan Griffiths frustrated the home crowd but the annoyance proved short-lived as speedy full back Steffan Howells cut the line to give a scoring pass to scrum half Emyr James.

The windy conditions put paid to the conversion attempt, but Griffiths finally found his range to extend the home lead with a penalty.

The kick appeared to galvanise the visitors who pressurised the Betws line, resulting in a yellow card for influential home Number 8 Gareth Comley.

The subsequent penalty was put over to reduce the home lead to 8-3 going into the break.

After the restart, Llangadog went ahead with two more penalties thanks to home indiscipline.

But Betws responded well with Dab Davies showing up very well in the loose in only his second game for the club.

Two further penalties to one from Llangadog set up a great last 10 minutes and Betws were fuming when the referee ruled out a try from home flyer Ashley Evans.

But the hosts had enough in the tank to see out the win and both Betws coaches were happy with the win considering the number of games played recently.
