Ammanford's disastrous start to their 2016 season got considerably worse when they were hammered by nine wickets at an inhospitable Bridgend ground on Saturday.

Put in to bat on a less than predictable track, Ammanford collapsed to a humiliating 30 for six inside 10 overs.

Four of those six wickets were lbw decisions which said a good deal about the bounce of the wicket.

Only Matthew Roberts (17) and keeper Gareth Slade (11*) were able to reach double figures.

The grateful recipients of Ammanford's wickets were Alex Jones (4-23), Tomos Jones (3-8) and Oliver Pike (2-7).

In complete contrast, Bridgend made ridiculously light work of the meagre challenge offered them.

Opener Sam Pearce's swashbuckling style made nonsense of the difficult batting conditions with eight fours and a six in his unbeaten half century which came up in just eight overs.

Matthew Fisher took Ammanford's only wicket, having Brisgend's other opener Sam Wood caught behind by Gareth Slade.

Ammanford's batsmen are caught in something of a vicious circle, being desperately short of batting time in the middle, due both to poor league form and to Sunday matches being called off by local teams unable to raise a side.

Llanelli recently conceded a Welsh Cup tie, whilst on Sunday Pontyberem were unable to fulfil their T20 fixture.

One can only hope their form will lift by several degrees when they entertain Neath at the Park next Saturday.
