Llandeilo's bowls season is officially underway for 2024.

Llandeilo Bowling Club (LBC) formally opened its doors on April 13 despite challenging weather conditions.

Mayor of Llandeilo Town Council, Christoph Fischer, accomplished the ceremonial first wood of the season, supported by his consort Kate Glanville and Cllr Edward Thomas.

Although the rain did cause some issues, the club managed to complete nine ends on various rinks.

Following the matches, club officials organised an afternoon tea accompanied by a raffle.

LBC president, Gareth James, took the opportunity to acknowledge the success of several members participating in short mat and indoor bowls during the winter period.

Their victories speak volumes about the outstanding talent at the club, with many members hoping to play for Wales in the upcoming season.

Furthermore, the LBC's short mat team had an amazing performance in the Carmarthenshire Short Mat Bowls Association's first division.

They have secured their position for next season showing consistent growth and a promising future.

Alongside this, the new captains for the men’s, ladies and veterans’ teams were wished luck for the oncoming season.

Jamie Davies, Ena Williams, and Doug Davies are all looking forward to leading their respective teams.

Mr Fischer extended his praises for the army of volunteers who have consistently worked to keep the bowling green in good condition over the last two winters.

According to him, the club emits a vibe of fun and positivity every time he passes by.

Similarly, Cllr Thomas expressed his deep connection to LBC due to the significant role his father once played in the club's operations.

According to Cllr Thomas, the anticipated transfer of sports and recreational facilities to the town council should provide a more stable future amid the current financial constraints on public funding.

For those interested in trying lawn bowls, the LBC is hosting an open day on April 27 from 1pm onwards.

The club welcomes all, irrespective of previous experience.

It is situated behind the fire station, and all necessary equipment, including bowls, will be provided. Only flat footwear is required.
