Swalec Bowl COBRA 14 Tycroes 22
7:00am Wednesday 22nd February 2012
TYCROES made the three-hour trip to Meifod near Welshpool with a quarter-final place at stake.
It was a bright cold afternoon and Tycroes made use of a strong wind in the first half. It was a tight start and it took the Tycroes pack 15 minutes to take control of a young but big COBRA front eight.
Wing Grant Williams certainly brought his kicking boots, landing five out of five Tycroes penalties for a 15-0 interval lead.
The visitors must have come out after the break hoping their advantage would be enough to see them though, but against the strong wind they enjoyed the perfect restart as outside half and man-of-the-match Dean Bromham scored in the corner.
Grant Williams converted with a brilliant touch-line kick.
The score was maintained until five minutes from time, but COBRA, to their credit, scored two converted tries through A Williams and R Jones.
This was an excellent performance from Tycroes with the pack dominant throughout.
It is fitting that this is the furthest Tycroes have been in a national competition in their Centenary season and they will be hoping for a home draw after four tough away encounters.
