Cwmamman United lost out in their league match against the champions.

A beautiful afternoon at Grenig Park on both teams' final game of the season witnessed Cwmamman United falling one goal short to newly crowned Macron West Wales Premier League champions, Rockspur Fords.

The match, full of quick movement and skill, was heightened by the fact that Rockspur fielded quite a few ex-Cwmamman players.

The start witnessed Rockspur's James Gorman and Cam Williams solidly countering the home team's attempts.

However, the intense back-and-forth twisted in Rockspur's favour in the 44th minute, with an unintended goal by their ex-Cwm winger, Ryan Hurlow.

The second half saw a more dominant Rockspur controlling the ball for the initial 15 minutes, with Cwm's defence, led by stand-in keeper Jack Sullivan, holding its own.

The home side's resilience resulted in Max Coley's free kick rebounding off the bar for Jackson Brereton to head in during the 80th minute.

Sensing the opportunity, Cwm introduced experienced Charlie Davies and 16-year-old Sam Franklin to shift the game balance.

Yet, Rockspur proved their championship mettle with quick thinking during a throw-in in the 87th minute - Hurlow lost his marker and passed the ball to Colin Harris who scored the decisive goal to seal victory for the visitors.

Cwm, now in sixth place, will nonetheless be taking away from this match a lot of confidence.

This new, young team developed remarkably over the past few games which include victories in three out of their five intense encounters with top four sides.

Despite Saturday's result, the belief within the team is that they deserved more from the game.

These experiences are bound to serve them well during the summer break as they prepare for the next season.
